On the move....sort of

It's been awhile since I talked about Jamieson's development and what he's up to these days, so this is a post particularly for the grandparents and great-grandparents who haven't seen him for awhile!

Jamieson will be 10 months old next week....time sure flies.  He's not crawling yet, so it looks like he's taking after Bethany who only crawled at 11 1/2 months old.  Although Bethany doesn't realise it yet, I'm sure she'll look back and be grateful for this, as in the meantime she doesn't have to put away all her little toys so Jamieson can't reach them!

He's been able to roll for several months, however he chose not to for quite awhile.  If we put him down on his tummy he would immediately roll onto his back and stay there.  However if we put him in his bed or on our bed, then he'd quite happily roll from one end to another in an instant!  So a few weeks ago, we decided to put a quilt on the loungeroom floor and see what happened.  Sure enough, he immediately started rolling!  But not just on the quilt - he rolled onto the rug and even the floorboards.  Not sure what that was all about, but it's now been the trigger for him to start rolling a lot more and spending more time on his tummy. 

But Jamieson still much prefers walking!  Not by himself obviously, but if we hold his hands he loves to walk (and practically run) for as long as our backs can stand it.  In the meantime, he has found a way to get around while being more upright....he has started bottom-shuffling.  He can only go short distances so far, but it helps him get toys that are just out of his reach, so it keeps him happy for a short time.  We're still trying to encourage crawling over bottom-shuffling though, but we'll see how we go!

Sleeping has been a bit up and down.  Jamieson was a pretty good sleeper until 6 months old, and then it's been a bit of hit-and-miss.  At the moment he's not too bad, waking once for a feed in the night, usually once earlier in the night, and then he's unsettled from around 5.30am onwards, when we usually bring him into our bed and thankfully he usually manages to go back to sleep for awhile.  (If we don't do this, we all end up having a very early morning - Bethany included!).  His day sleeps have been stable for quite awhile, but of course he had to change this routine the day before school went back!  So now his afternoon sleep is starting to clash with school pick-up.  Not much we can do about that really I guess - he'll just have to get by with a shorter sleep than he probably needs, as he isn't one who can transfer from bed to car without waking.

Talking - he still says "Dadda" all the time (much to the delight of Jerome!), and if he is frustrated, it's often "DAAAAAD-DAAAA"!  Jerome is loving the fact that Jamieson is a Daddy's boy (after Bethany having such a strong preference for Mummy!).  Yesterday Jamieson said his second word "Mum-mum", looking very pleased with himself.

Eating: he eats well when he likes the food!  Lately he's becoming bored with his old favourites, although I can still manage to get him to eat a reasonable amount if I persist.  We're trying to find some new foods that he'll eat - besides the bottled baby food from the store that he's decided he likes!  We used them a couple of times when we've been out and about in the holidays, but hopefully he'll decide he likes home cooking again too.

Playing: Jamieson's quite a sociable baby, and loves to see new people, new places and new toys.  He gets bored at home and Mummy's boring too!  Bethany is great fun, and anything she does is very funny (if Mummy does the same thing, it's not nearly as amusing!).  If Bethany laughs, Jamieson laughs too!  I'm trying to find a playgroup or something similar that we can go to, but they all tend to be in the morning when he has his best sleep, so I'm not too sold on that idea yet.  Still looking for an alternative.

I think that's about it!  As you may have noticed from the photos, he has heaps of hair now - so much so that we are regularly getting comments about it ("Look at all that hair!"), even from random strangers.  Reminds me of Bethany when she was young, except her hair also stuck straight up!
