The first 3 months

Now that Jamieson is 3 months old, it must be time to start a blog! So here is a summary of where things are at with our family:

Jerome: is looking for a job...yes, this seems to be a recurring theme! Stay tuned for more details.

Deb: is on maternity leave and is feeling pretty good at the moment, given Jamieson's good sleeping (see below).

Bethany: is back at school today for term 3 and is loving Prep, doing especially well in reading and writing. She loves to write stories for us, and we can understand most of what she has written (which she spells herself).

Jamieson: turned 3 months old last week - yes, time does fly! Here's what he's up to these days:
Sleeping - yes he does sleep - yay! He's been quite good at night sleeps for quite awhile, and is now only waking once a night for a feed, then straight back to sleep. Day sleeps have become easier recently too - it takes about 10 minutes to settle him with a bit of whingeing (on his part!), then he often wakes after 30-40 minutes but we can now get him back to sleep after some patting (this was the hard part with Bethany - we could never get her to resettle). Since Bethany was such a terrible sleeper, we aren't taking this for granted and we know things may still change, so we are grateful for every good sleep he gets!

Feeding - he is mostly bottle (formula) fed these days. For those who hadn't heard, the very short version on this is that he was not putting on weight over a number of weeks (either losing weight or only gaining very small amounts). So after trying everything we could to persist with breastfeeding, including consulting the health nurse, GP, lactation consultant, and numerous calls to ABA, eventually we had to start topping up with formula. This was very unexpected on our part since I breastfed Bethany until she was 1 1/2! Jamieson now prefers the bottle, so breastfeeding continues to decline (we thought this might happen, as his main issue is that the breastmilk doesn't come fast enough for him, and the bottle is much faster). However we feel we did everything we could to give breastfeeding a go, and we certainly saw an instant improvement in Jamieson (both in weight gain and in behaviour - more alert and much happier), so it has been worth it, although not something we ever expected to do!

Playing - he shows a strong preference for Jerome, Bethany and I these days which is lovely :) It looks like he might be a Daddy's boy, as he loves to see him when he gets home from work, and watches him constantly as he moves around the room. Today when Jerome was on the phone I put him on speaker and Jamieson started looking around for Daddy! He couldn't quite work that one out!

Health - he's been healthy except for a bad case of cradle cap which has resulted in him losing all his hair on the top of his head! We'd stopped trying to remove the cradle cap when we saw that his hair would come out too (in big chunks!), but it soon became very itchy and the itch would drive him mad, so we had to get it cleared up and yesterday the last bit came off. Now he'll look like Grandpa for awhile!

So that's where things are at for us at the moment. I hope to be able to update the blog semi-regularly at least :)
