A momentous day

Yesterday was a pretty big day for Jamieson for two reasons. The first one, and the most exciting one, is that he had his first 'real' sleep through the night! He went to bed at 7.30pm, woke a couple of times during the night but managed to put himself back to sleep, and then woke at 6am. We even managed to resettle him for another 20 minutes, so only got up at 6.20am. And last night he managed to repeat this feat!

The only down side of this achievement is that it makes it awkward timing for school drop off in the morning. Usually he only stays awake for 1 1/2 hours, but on school mornings we manage to stretch that to 2 hours, but if he's now waking earlier (and fair enough, having slept through the whole night!), there's not enough time to have a proper sleep before school, but it's too long to keep him up too. Hopefully he can manage to sleep another 1/2 hour and then we should be just about right.

The second reason it was a big day was that he rolled over for the first time. He was on his tummy and pushing up with one arm more than the other, so I held the toy up higher, and in twisting around to see the toy, over he went. While rolling over for the first time gives some babies a bit of a fright, he didn't even seem to notice what he'd done!

Back on the topic of sleep, we tried weaning him off being wrapped a few weeks ago, and with one arm out he was doing ok, but when we took out the second arm, he really struggled, and after a terrible week of sleeping (i.e. not sleeping) we decided he clearly wasn't ready for this. But since he's getting bigger and stronger he gets out of the wrap too easily, which then disturbs his sleep. So we've invested in a new Australian invention called Sleepy Wings, which goes over one arm, behind his back and over the other arm and allows him to suck on his hand (or the material as he prefers!), rub his eyes etc and not get too hot in layers of material as the weather starts to get warmer. Most importantly he can't get out of it so we don't have to keep re-wrapping him. Anyway, it seems to be working well. If you're interested, check out their website: www.sleepywings.com.au Wish it was around when Bethany was little! She always wanted her arms wrapped so this probably would have suited her quite well.
